Aether Sauna
An off-grid power station on a private island

When we launched the Aether Sauna at Warleigh Weir (part of another portfolio project), we needed power to run lighting, sound, a coffee machine, catering equipment and a washing machine. As an environmentally focused project, it was not appropriate to use generators. Grid power was not available, as the site is on an island which is prone to flooding. And because the natural environment needs to stay quiet, the power system needed to be silent.
This was an ideal opportunity to install another off-grid power system.
With a 20 kWh battery system and several solar panels, we now have an abundance of free, green, silent power. In the summer months the same system is also used to power additional catering and audio equipment for events.
To ensure absolute reliability in the darker months, we have a standby generator which can be used to top up the batteries. As the charge rate is high, the generator only needs to be on for an hour, running hard, to get the batteries back to 100%.
