Our Story
The origins of Autonomous go back to 2021, when energy prices were shooting up so fast that they threatened the viability of the businesses occupying properties in our investment portfolio.
Separately, we had developed some exciting off-grid energy systems for our event engineering company.
Blending this problem with the skills we had, it became apparent that we needed to scale up what we had learnt from making mobile off-grid power stations for events.
We then quickly scaled up the work we had already been doing for years to be able to install large-scale industrial solar and battery systems, which have been rolled out across our industrial estate at Skyline Park in Bristol.
When we installed a system that made a large industrial facility “grid positive” (meaning it produces more energy than it uses) and achieved an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of A3, we realised we were onto something good and wanted to share this technology with other people who want to make their businesses more environmentally and financially sustainable.
As we progressed, we built a team, skills and tooling to also be able to install large-scale battery storage, air-source heat pumps, ground-source heat pumps, advanced building control and novel solutions for commercial property.
Everything we have learnt is from working on our own properties, where our approach to longevity, quality and compliance is unwavering.
In areas where we are refining our skills, we do them on our own properties until we have perfected our methods and our craft.
